Horror in the Wallpaper Screams. Running. Hiding. An engulfing evil force. The pain of final stage and rabidness is near. This is todays sense of the term repulsive force. But, when describing a guileless annoyance reputation, images of Frankenstein or Dracula come to the minds of many. To others, the word horror revives emotions, such as panic, pain, and fear. These are the emotions which are the ground of horror in the classical sense. It awakens an intense nervous depression or anxiety of the reader, often without the use of gore and death. The story The yellow Wallpaper is the epitome of a classical horror. In this story, the fabricator grows increasingly obsessed with the wallpaper. As this fascination increases, she continues to hand deeper into insanity. As her insanity grows, she begins to see a pattern in the wallpaper which she is quite sure it is a woman (Gilman, The discolour Wallpaper). This is where she begins to relate with the woman in the wall paper and slips into a macrocosm which has no basis in reality. She begins to see that women must, themselves, creep (Gilman, The yellowed Wallpaper) in arrears the shadow of their husbands and what is expected of them of society.
The horror of this story is non so much dismemberment or ghosts, but alternatively what is horrifying, is that in order for the narrator to gain a pass off intelligence of who she is, she must lose herself, in order to stripping herself.
